The old saloon, originally built as a whorehouse, is rumored to be haunted by several entities. The downstairs area is the saloon, while the second floor, or Madam’s Room, houses small partitioned segments in which the ladies of the night plied their trade. The second floor is the area that is haunted; here, witnesses have reported cold spots, disembodied footsteps, the a strong perfume scent, and a shimmering light. A ghostly female takes care of plants on the second floor. It is said that at least one female presence here does not care much for men.

When taking tour photos, I never use a flash so as not to disturb others on the tour. While standing in the first room (up the short stairway of the Red Onion) as I used the focus to prepare the shot of the room with the windows to my left, each time I tried to focus, everything in the frame (except the lit window) quickly started fading dark. After 5 times, I snapped the picture as it started to change. No anomalies showed up in the photo, but I couldn’t get it to stop the turning black. I walked over and shot the room from the opposite side, with the windows on my right, and the photos came out with perfect light and color never fading to black.
By that time, the tour had crossed the hall to the room where Lydia is seen, and I took a picture of my husband standing near a piece of furniture. The picture is hazy and you can almost make out a face in front of the cabinet. The photo I took afterward was of him again in the same place with the windows also to his side, but the color and light are normal. The window light was not causing the haziness in the previous photo.
