The historical Presbytère building, designed in 1791 to match the Cabildo, was erected on the site of the residence of the Capuchin monks, although it was never used as a monks’ residence. The building is now part of the Louisiana State Museum. It is said to be haunted by the ghost of a former janitor who remains in service in the afterlife.
