Built in 1770 by the Crary family, this inn is said to have some ghosts in residence. The apparition of Nancy Cracy has been spotted, a gray-haired woman in a shawl. She is seen in the North Room on the second floor, and is rumored to have saved lives there when she awakened the guests after a fire broke out. Another ghost here is a previous owner’s wife. Legend has it that the owner and his wife’s best friend had an affair, and when the wife found out she banned her friend from the place. Twelve years later after the wife passed away, the owner married the best friend. When she had a birthday party in the place, a horrible stench of rotting or decay followed her and her guests from room to room, spoiling the party. Voices and cold spots have been reported by guests and employees alike.
Reports say the inn is no longer open for business.

My new book just out, “Jury Rigged,” features Red Brook Inn in chapter 4.There, my lead characters spend three days on honeymoon. While writing in 1998, I corresponded with a certain Heather at the Inn. She explained that a Mrs. Keys was in charge and supplied me with much information as to the Inn and as to Mystic in general. I now understand the place is said to be haunted. I would appreciate any current information, as I may have my characters return in a book being written. Thank you.
I had a pet sitting business Pawz-N-Clawz Sitter Service when I lived in CT. I would pet sit for the homeowners elderly cat Mystic. When I would come in the house drawers and cabinets would be open. I laughed telling the owner “Wow she might be old but she has a party every night!” He responded “No that is the woman in black.” I made sure to always go there in the daytime after that!
My daughter and I stayed here in 2010. It was the craziest night of my life. My 10 year old was asleep but speakling old english, or from the bible…like she was possessed. Could wait for the sun to come up that morning.
