This early-1900s inn has two haunted rooms: 205 and 207. There are logs in the room where guests can write about anything strange that occurs during their stay. Folks have reported footsteps, jiggling doorknobs, unexplained noises, and other sounds of someone making a racket in the hallway.

About 10 yrs ago (2005) my husband and I had gone to dinner at the Balsam Inn with my mother and a friend of ours. The food was excellent, everything was fine. Toward the end of our dinner my mother became very ill all of a sudden without warning. After leaving the dining room, she was just fine. This had never happened before. We all had attributed it to a paranormal experience.
I had the chance to conduct a paranormal investigation at The Grand Old Lady Hotel (formerly the Balsam Inn) in 2020. Myself and two other females were the only people in the building for an entire weekend, and we were able to capture some very compelling paranormal evidence during that time. I would consider this location extremely haunted.
Do you and your team still do investigations?
I’d always wondered if there was any history of hauntings. When my husband and I stayed there maybe 20 years ago, we were only ones on our wing. We were awakened in the middle of the night by very distinct sounds of someone in next room – we were very upset at the time that someone would be so loud and discourteous. Next am, we were told by the hotel staff that no one else was there.
