Among the phenomena seen and heard at this 1800s fort are the ghost of a cavalry officer nicknamed Old Bedlam who likes to tell visitors “Be quiet!” and a spirit the museum employees call George, who likes to open doors and startle people with the sound of footsteps. Reports say in the early morning, at reveille time, heavy boots sometimes can be heard tromping over the boardwalk in front of the barracks.

during a visit to Fort Laramie i thought i saw a person in old military garb go around the corner of ne of the building. i thought he must have been a tour guideand ihada uestion about something ele i saw i ran arounthe corner ad no-one was there, h had just disappeared. The question i wanted to ask him was about the indians with torches i saw across the river, a real guide said that there were no indian re-enactors at the fort. i left there wth a scary feeling abot the thini saw..
I need to submit a correction regarding the story. “Old Bedlam” is not the name of an officer. It is the name of the structure that served as the Bachelor Officers’ Quarters at Fort Laramie.
