Captain Asa Clapp is said to haunt this house, as well as the nearby McLellan-Sweat Mansion. His apparition has been seen, and other phenomena such as cold spots, footsteps, and an eerie presence have been experienced.

  1. I attended Portland School of Art between 1975 and 1979. My senior studio was in the Clapp House. I never heard or saw anything. Seniors work around the clock in their studios and this is the first I’ve heard of a ghost!
