Tar River

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Tar River

In a Revolutionary War tale, a miller and patriot was drowned in the river by a group of British soldiers. Before he died, he threatened that if they killed him, they would be haunted by a banshee. According to the tale, the banshee appeared, killed the soldiers, and avenged the miller. Folks who live nearby claim the banshee never has left the river.

  3. I live a few miles from the tar river. I was traveling on a road by the tar river a couple of years ago when I saw a man walking near the road heading for the tar river bank. I thought wow must be an event happening nearby. I reduced my speed to actually check this out. I looked in my left side view mirror and he disappeared. When I arrived home I was very shaken. My teenagers wanted to know what was going on. They did research on the area but asked me the colors of the uniform and I described a perfect revolutionary war soldier.. I said I would never tell this story to anyone but my family but maybe this might help someone else not doubt themselves because it does happen.
